Regarding Yakult's sponsorship of the FINA World Championships and World Swimming Championships (25m)

Jul 2005

From 2005 through 2008 as a FINA Official Partner, Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd. (President, Sumiya Hori) will sponsor the FINA World Championships (2005 and 2007) and the FINA World Swimming Championships (2006 and 2008) organised by the FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE NATATION (FINA).

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of Yakult and the philosophies of its founder, Dr. Minoru Shirota, which were: “preventive medicine,” or the importance of prevention of illness rather than reliance only on treatment; and, “a healthy intestine leads to a long life.”

Up until now, Yakult has maintained its status as a leading Probiotic company while in addition, as a corporate citizen, also engaging in various, cooperative “science and technology promotions” and “regional social activities.”

However, “Yakult” is currently sold in 26 countries and regions across the globe, and for this year, the 70th anniversary of its founding, Yakult has for some time been looking for an internationally-known organization which contributes to health that Yakult, as a Probiotic company loved by people around the world, could support and cooperate with in order to further accelerate its own future overseas expansion.

The result of this search was FINA, which organizes the internationally loved, lifelong aquatics sports on a worldwide level and is expanding its healthy image globally through the fostering and spread of its skills and techniques. It was this harmony with Yakult's corporate philosophy, “to contribute to the health of people around the world,” which led to the partnership.

According to the agreement, Yakult's logo (Yakult) will appear on the bibs and swimming caps (from 2006) of all female athletes at the FINA World Championships and FINA World Swimming Championships, as well as on pool-side advertising boards. Furthermore, Yakult will have the marketing rights to use the FINA logo on printed materials and products. A trophy will be presented to the outstanding synchronized swimming team .

In addition, at the FINA World Championships to be held in Montreal, Canada, in July, Yakult will provide its product, “Yakult,” and other beverages to athletes and event officials.

With this agreement, the recognition of the Yakult Group as a global company and as a contributor to health around the world will be furthered.
